The Staggering Reunion concludes with an album that I rank with the same 2 stars as English Little League and Let's Go Eat the Factory, but slightly better than the mostly awful Class Clown Spots a UFO. The fact is that it is one of the least satisfying of any GBV albums because of the plethora of absolutely awful songs (tracks 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 14 all rank one star). Authoritarian Zoo gets things off to a rousing start and Toby does turn in the fine Psychotic Crush (maybe the best of his handful of good songs on these outings), and Hat of Flames is a classic, but the other two songs in the opening 5 are excruciating. Table at Fool's Tooth is an overlooked classic in miniature, but the AMG gets it all wrong by proclaiming the next Toby song a highlight (it's execrable). The album loses all flow because the next 8 tracks are either awful or a slight step above (Bad Love is Easy to Do is NOT the classic that uber fans or this site believe). The album finishes strong with the classic Males of Wormwood Mars and even another decent closing (and title!) track, but the long stretches of boredom make this one impossible to like as a whole and far less satisfying than some of those that outrank it slightly.
