In my opinion this is an overlooked gem in Bill's discography of live albums. Recorded live at The Village Vanguard in January of 1974 most reviewers gloss over it as if the playing was bad or uninspired. In my opinion this album has some real wonderful moments of joyous playing from the trio as an unit. In my opinion the player providing the creative sparks on this gig was bassist Eddie Gomez who seems to be enjoying himself just a tad more than Evans and Morell. Check out the title track "Since We Met" an interesting original by Evans that explores 3/4 4/4 and rubato time feels. From the opening bars of Since We Met Eddie Gomez is in perfect synch with Evans. Shortly after this was recorded Bill & Eddie recorded the great duo album "Intuition" and also toured in 1975 as a duo recording the live album Montruex III. In my opinion it's the new material that the trio played specifically for this live album that brings out their best like the Cy Coleman tune See-Saw and a new tune from one of Bill's friends Earl Zindars "Sareen Jurer" and Joe Zawinul's "Midnight Mood". I probably wouldn't recommend this to casual Evans fans because it takes concentrated listening to fully enjoy but I think this album is fantastic and I urge you to listen and decide for yourself I think you'll agree with me.
