Many unauthorized Kiss videos/DVDs saw the light of day in the late '90s/early '00s -- such as Unauthorized, Rock N' Roll Legends, and the first of 2001, The Vintage. Bootleg concert footage and interview clips of the band have been circulating in Kiss fan circles since the '80s, but many of these fan-created compilations were marred by poor visual and sound quality (naturally, the more these videotapes would be traded and duplicated, the worse the quality became). But with the advent of DVD, longtime fans began looking to upgrade their long-battered videos, and The Vintage contains several interviews and silent film footage (none of Kiss' music could be used since this isn't a band-approved DVD) that will interest most members of the Kiss Army. Newcomers should stick with any of the group's officially released videos/DVDs (Second Coming, X-Treme Close Up, etc.), but if you're a longtime fan interested in gaining new insight into the band through classic '70s/'80s makeup-era interviews, you'll find several intriguing shorts here. Included is a rare silent super 8-millimeter film from 1974 that was just recently unearthed (it's allegedly the earliest in-concert footage of the group in existence), as well as a fan-shot, in-concert film of the group in 1977 on the Love Gun tour (the camera work is very jumpy on the latter). Also featured is a clip of Canadian fans in early 1983 at a Kiss dress-up contest, as well as pro-shot interviews with band members from 1975, 1977, 1979, 1980, and 1983 from TV news programs (plus outtakes from a promo video that coincided with their never-ending Farewell Tour of 2000-2001, in which Ace Frehley appears to be oblivious as to what's going on).
