This early record by the trio of J. Burger, Mike Ink, and Walker represents a prototypical version of the style of the melodic, hook-based techno that has become synonymous with Cologne, Germany. By 1992, these three up-and-coming producers had discovered a winning formula that sounding wonderfully unique and equally fresh. Their collaboration results in one of their strongest releases to date, perfectly summing up everything special about their techno. What at first seems like a standard techno track with mild intensity soon becomes something beautiful once the patented cheery, melodic synth hook enters. The hooks employed by the trio have made them famous, bringing a sense of accessible pop melody to something otherwise inaccessible for the most part. On "Dark Side of the Moon," and particularly "Planetfall," a particular sense of dread presents itself here in a way that latter releases by the three wouldn't, but besides this typical motif - common to most German and Belgian techno at the time - these songs are 100-percent prototypical Cologne techno, sounding remarkably similar to the pop techno on Burger's late '90s Modernist album.
